SHINE for Autism Sensory Break Boxes

Over the past month SHINE have been working on a new project to supply all schools, toddler groups and some services in the area with a 'Sensory Break Box' starter pack.

Sensory toys are often used to provide sensory input in a less distracting way. They can help improve concentration and attention to tasks by allowing the brain to filter out the extra sensory information (e.g. listening to a lesson in the classroom, paying attention to a book during circle time) or can also be used as a calming activity.

Over 40 boxes have now been delivered and are being put to good use in local schools, nurseries, toddler groups and even both Millom dental practices. The boxes include tangle toy, stretchy centipede, stretchy string, galaxy squeeze ball, spiky light up ball, light up puffer bear, rainbow ball, koosh ball, stress ball, light up ocean ball, water timer and some include ear defenders.

We are also really pleased to announce that every school and nursery in our local area have now received their own copy of our Parent/Carer Information Guide which has been produced to give parent/carers strategies and practical information which will help both before and after diagnosis.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to SHINE and helped make both these projects possible xx
